Well, I started one of these last year, but didn't get very far, so I've come up with a different color scheme, and am starting all over.
What's a temperature afghan?
I got the idea from a project I saw on Pinterest called a Weather Scarf...which is actually a knitted scarf that was made one row a day depending on what the weather was outside...it was shades of blues and greys.
I decided that I wanted to do this, but I want to make an afghan, by crocheting one row a day depending on what the temperature is at noon each day, for a year. It will all be done in the Woven (or Granite) stitch, which I learned how to do HERE, and will, at the end of the year, be big enough to cover my full size bed, with a couple inches of drape on either side.
Here is the color scheme I came up with. The only color that I will need to change is the Sunflower, as it is a Caron yarn, but the only sample I had of that shade of yellow.
I'm going to be using all Red Heart Super Saver yarn, which is:
1. The only yarn that I can buy locally that comes in a lot of colors, without having to order it.
2. A yarn that I can easily afford.
3. A durable yarn that while stiff when working with it, softens up nicely after washing and drying, is easy to take care of, and will last a long time.
The colors, from left to right are: Claret, Burgundy, Cherry Red, Gold, Sunflower (will be replaced with a similar shade of Red Heart), Dark Sage, Light Sage, Frosty Green, Soft Navy, Blue, Medium Purple and Pale Plum.
Here is how the colors will be worked into the afghan, according to the temperature ranges:
100+ ~ Claret
90 - 99 ~ Burgundy
80 - 89 ~ Cherry Red
70 - 79 ~ Gold
60 - 69 ~ Sunflower
50 - 59 ~ Dark Sage
40 - 49 ~ Light Sage
30 - 39 ~ Frosty Green
20 - 29 ~ Soft Navy
10 - 19 ~ Blue
0 - 9 ~ Medium Purple
Sub 0 ~ Pale Plum
After making a long chain, and measuring it on my bed, I decided that I would start with 347 chains, and am using a size G (4.00 mm) hook.
I've actually started on it, and at noon today, the temp was 22 degrees, so I'm starting off with Soft Navy.....here's the beginning my year-long project:
Impressive, isn't it? LOL!
